On the 10th it will become official that The Presbyterian Church will allow homosexuals to serve as clergy. According to the Associated Press, the official constitution will have a change in verbiage. It will cease to read, "in fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, or chastity in singleness." Henceforth it will only specify that clergy should "submit joyfully to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all aspects of life."
It would appear that this compromise was reached in order that each congregation or presbytery will have the freedom to accept the change or impose more Bibically structured rules. The AP illuded to the dropping-out of conservative churches as well as an exhaustion of the previous stale-mate as possible causes for the reprieve for same-sex ministers.
In the town I write to you from, we have experienced a large upheaval as a result of the recent ULCA approval of gay clergy. The separation of a large local Lutheran congregation from the above association lead to a liberal off-shoot of gay supporters...
To be continued with the remarks of local pastors.
